Mechatronics Car Contest (MCC)

Scarborough Chapter of Professional Engineers of Ontario is continuing in the second year of a contest designed for Scarborough high school students (Grades 9 to12) called “Mechatronics Car Contest” (MCC). This exciting contest involves the new and upcoming area of engineering known as Mechatronics (a multi-disciplinary field of engineering).

The contest will be conducted into two groups:

Juniors: Grade 9-10

Seniors: Grade 11-12

When: April 18, 2015 Saturday 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

Where: SATEC @ W.A. Porter C.I., 40 Fairfax Crescent, Scarborough, ON M1L 1Z9 

Important Information
  • Registration: On or before April 3, 2015
  • Follow the link for Questions and Answers.
  • Food or drinks are not allowed in the Contest Area.
    • Please eat your lunch before or during registration time at the cafeteria.
    • Please bring your own lunch and drinks as they will not be served.
  • Parents, teachers and friends, are welcome and encouraged to watch and cheer!

On-Line registration by teachers or parents starts: Fri, 27-March, 2015

On-Line registration (for early parts collection) to be done before: Fri, 3-April, 2015

MCC Contest:  Sat, 18-April, 2015


The contest will have two components, car race and knowledge test for each group. Students, as teams of minimum 2 students up to 3 students, will design, fabricate, and race their car for a distance of 20m on a flat, smooth floor of the contest site. Registered team should submit detailed sketches and drawings along with design notes for review prior to fabricate the car. A few parts for the car will be supplied by the PEO Scarborough Chapter to the registered teams. Teams can use the supplied parts or may use other parts of their choice as proposed in their design drawings and notes. A panel of judges will interview the contestants to test their presentation skills, and knowledge of their designs. For the knowledge test, each contestant will have to answer a set of questions meant to test his/her knowledge of Mechanics, Electricity and Electronics and related fields.

Prizes: (in 2 levels – Junior and Senior)          

  • Winning Car Team: 3 prizes
  • Judges Team: 3 prizes
  • Teacher’s prize: Prize to the teacher(s) who trained the winners.
  • School Prize: Prize for the school that is judged as the one that sent the best team.
