    Thank you for organizing the technical trip to Peterborough Lift Lock Cruise. It was an informative and interesting trip. We enjoyed the cruise and wish to thank you all for that. In future we offer support and cooperation for such endeavors by the chapter and look forward to the next trip.

 

    The Technical Visit and cruise were most worthwhile. It was educational and scenic on a beautiful day .it was well organized and despite a full bus load, the schedule was maintained. Both my wife and myself would like to thank you and the Scarborough Chapter for making this a most enjoyable day.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

  • 8:30 am - Departure from YMCA, 230 Town Centre Ct, Scarborough

  • 10:00 am - Arrival at Lift Lock (92 George St N, Peterborough, ON

  • 10:30–12:30 – Sightseeing by a Cruise      

  • 12:30–1:30 Lunch (not provided by Chapter)

  • 1:30–2:30 - Peterborough Lift Lock Visitor Centre (353 Hunter Street East, Peterborough)

  • 3:00–5:30  Brewery Tour (The Olde Stone Brewing Company, 380 George Street North Peterborough, ON,K9H 3R3  or Millennium Park, Peterborough.

  • 7:30 Arrive at YMCA.

TRIP DETAILS

1. Sightseeing by Cruise: You will explore the beautiful Trent Severn Waterway.  The  sightseeing cruise departs from the Peterborough Marina and the tour will take you across Little Lake, past the Peterborough Centennial Fountain and into the City of Peterborough portion of the 110-year-old lock system, the first traditional flood lock raises us 12 feet, to the highlight of our trip.  Where we go up and over the Peterborough Liftlock which is the world’s highest hydraulic lift lock which lifts 65 feet or 19.8m above the city.

2. Peterborough Lift Lock Visitor Centre: You will learn about the history behind the Peterborough Lift Lock and the Trent-Severn Waterway. You can check out models of other famous lift locks around the world as well as the work that went into building the highest hydraulic lift lock in the world.

3. Brewery Tour: You will have a chance to visit a brewery in Peterborough. The cost for beer tasting is not included in the fee. Those who do not want to go to Beer Factory will enjoy their time at a natural Park nearby.

Car Parking at Scarborough Centre: Paid car park south of McCowan station.
